Christmas Party
The music circle of the Christchurch Home Economics Association provided the entertainment at a Christmas party in St. Paul’s schoolroom last evening. About 70 members and friends attended. The aim of the association was to foster home life and stimulate interest in the home, while special attention was given to economy and diet, said the president (Mrs L. V. Gain). The Mayoress (Mrs G. Manning) and those who had spoken or entertained during the year were among those specially invited. Sprays were given to all committee members by Mrs Gain, who also welcomed the guests. A special bouquet- was presented to Mrs G. Willis for her work in providing refreshments at every meeting. The hall was decorated with vases of fresh blooms, and arrangements of pale yellow, red and pink roses formed the main decoration for the edge of the stage. A letter from an Italian child, sponsored by the association through the Save the Children Fund, was read by the secretary (Mrs R. W. Borland). Group songs were given by the music circle conducted by Mr Lloyd G. Peach and accompanied by Miss Beryl Batstone, who also flpve elocutionary items. A documentary film on Scotland was shown by the Rev. W. M. Hendrie. Mrs Manning wore a navy taffeta cocktail dress checked in silver and grey. Mrs Gain’s dress was of bronze, gold threaded, taffeta style in the H line. The square neckline was trimmed with a flat bow.
