MINOR FIRES
Traffic in parts of the city came to a sudden standstill a few minutes after five o’clock yesterday when three units from the Central Fire Brigade were called to a Are in a hotel bedroom. The brigade received the call at 5.6 p.m. to a bedroom fire at the Federal Hotel, Colombo street. A small fire was quickly extinguished and there was only slight damage. A truck and some furniture were slightly damaged when the truck caught alight outside 85 Torrens road, Hillmorten, at 5.33 p.m. yesterday. The truck, owned by H. Gould and Company, of Timaru, was carrying the furniture for Mr D. A. Lewis, of Hillmorten. One unit from the Sockburn Fire prigade attended. A unit from the Sockburn Fire Brigade extinguished a grass fire on a section in Canterbury street, Hornby, owned by the Fletcher Steel Company, Ltd., at 11.30 a.m. yesterday.
