November 22. | Japan's political crisis ended to-; day when the Prime Minister <Mrj Nobusuke Kishi) bowed before t strong public opinion and Opposi-i •ion pressure, and agreed to with-; drew his Government’s controversial Police Powers Bill. At today's meeting between Mr[ Kishi and the chairman of the Socialist Party 'Mr Mosaburo Suzuki) the Prime Minister* agreed to withdraw the Police' Bill in its present form and submit a new version to the next I regular Parliamentary session in December. In return, the Socialist Party agreed to return to the Diet, from I which it walked out on Novem-i her 4 in protest against the Government’s arbitrary extension of Parliament in order to pass the Police Powers Bill. |
