“Kramer Contracts Next Month”

The world’s leading amateur tennis player, Ashley Cooper, and his fellow Australian, Mai Anderson, were almost certain to sign up with Jack Kramer’s professional troupe immediately after next month's Davis Cup challenge round, the Melbourne “Herald" reported today. The newspaper said that Kramer had guaranteed Cooper £90,000 over three years and Anderson was expected to make about £25.000 in his first year. Cooper’s figure was the highest ever offered an amateur. The previous highest was £55.000 guaranteed to Lew Hoad when he joined the Kramer troupe last year. The contract was for two years. Cooper, aged 22. and Anderson, who is 23, would not announce their intentions until after the challenge round. If they did. they would forfeit their amateur status immediately. the “Herald” said.
