Spokesmen
, (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) I NEW YORK, November 23. I Greeks and Turkish Cypriot ; spokesmen shouted at each other i today in the heated aftermath of a television debate. Mr Zenon Rossides. a Greek Cypriot, told Mr Rauf Denktash, a Turkish Cypriot: “Go ahead and hit me if you want to —that will show how civilised you are.” Mr Denktash did not hit him. although Mr Rossides told reporters afterwards he had threatened to. Mr Denktash said only: ‘‘You are not entitled to call me a liar. 1 am not your slave yet.” Mr Rossides retorted: “You are not entitled to call us murderers.” He then invited Mr Denktash to sit down and talk things over. Mr Rossides is the legal adviser to Archbishop Makarios, and Mr Denktash is the president of the Federation of Turkish Associations of Cyprus. Mr Rossides told reporters that the quarrel started when he complained he had not been given time on the programme, “U.N. in Action,” to answer a “pack of lies” he said Mr Denktash had told. Both groups are in New York to follow the United Nations Cyprus debate, expected to start early this week in the General Assembly’s Political Committee.
