NEW REGIME IN SUDAN
Recognition By Russia
(Rec. 9 p.m.) CAIRO, November 23.
The Soviet Union has recognised the new Sudanese Government, the Middle East News Agency reported today.
The Minister of the Interior in the new Sudanese Government. Major-General Ahmed Abdel Wahab, was quoted tonight as saying that Sudan’s foreign policy was not pro-Western but neutral The news agency reported him as saying this in an interview ir Khartoum today.
The agency also reported that Sudan’s new Prime Minister, General Ibrahim Abboud, says he will hand power back to civilians as soon as stability is restored and “the country is in the hands of honest men. capable of leading it to a better life.”
Quoted by the Associated Press the agency reported today that the general told a press conference last night: “Members of the Army Command cherish nothing more in life than service in the army and its noble duties.”
Genera] Abboud said politicians who served under the former regime could enjoy equal rights with other Sudanese and “hold any honourable job to earn their living.”
