NATURALISATION CEREMONY
32 New Citizens
Thirty-two men and women became New Zealand citizens last evening at a civic naturalisation ceremony after they had taken the oath of allegiance before the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G Manning). Holland was the birthplace of most of the new citizens, but the Ukraine. Hungary. Germany. Czechoslovakia. Indonesia. Estonia, Latvia, Poland and China were among the countries of origin.
Mr Manning told the new citizens that in accepting the privilege of New Zealand citizenship they were accepting responsibilities with it—to understand the political structure and the functions of the various units in the democratic procedures, to learn about the historic development of the country and to play their part ir. its future development. “We welcome you as New Zealanders and trust that your life in your new country will be a happy and prosperous one.” Mr Manning said.
Those who subscribed to the oath of allegiance were Jan Scheepstra, Willem Snoep and Agnes Martha Snoep. Wilhelmus Albertus Jozef Van Vliet. Nicholas Lambertus Wouters, Hendrik Willem Lagrand, William Peter Otto, Laszlo Tomanek, Andreas Tsakos, Pavel Bohumil Krejci. Frank Brauer, Kurt Smeekes. Eddy Rynsburger. Veronika Gysberta Rynsburger. Antoni us Petrus Adrianus Haans, Cornelia Petronella Maria Haans, Johan Gerhard Joosten, Henrica Johanna Joosten. Sjoerd Siegmar Tjaard Siemelink, Harmtje Siemelink, Eufrosiine Elvi Alla, accompanied by her 14-year-old daughter Leedy, Rozalia Walena Milczarska, Ausma Vize, Karlis Vize, David Ng, Willem Gerrit Grijns, Theodorus Johannes Maria Heeze, Geert Hoekstra, Johannes Maria Van Der Krogt, Alfred Petrus Matla, Edward Johannes Matla.
