Five Christchurch Pupils Chosen

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, November 21. Five Christchurch school pupils are among the 14 chosen so far to visit New Caledonia during the Christmas holidays from December 22 to January 11. Seventeen pupils, of whom three girls have still to be chosen, will be billeted in French homes where they will have the opportunity to improve their oral French. The Christchurch pupils are Florence Mac Kay and Allison Chapman, of St. Margaret's College. and Robert Gardiner. Peter Tremewan and Leonard Death, all of Christchurch Boys’ High School. Thirteen French girls and 12 French boys will accompany them when they return to New Zealand, and will be billeted in homes throughout the country. Seven of the boys will remain until February 23. attending New Zealand secondary schools for a short time. Mr M. V. Hutchinson, of the Auckland Grammar School, and Miss F. Kissling. of the Auckland Girls’ Grammar School, will go with the children, who are all sixth formers this year. They are all between the ages of 17 and 19. some are sitting university, scholarship examinations. and most intend to take up post- j primary school teaching.
