CAPE FOULWIND CEMENT

Production Started At Works

(From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT, November 20. History was made in the Buller district this morning when the first cement was produced from, jthe New Zealand company’s} works at Cape Foulwind. The; kiln had been lit for some days, and. with sufficient clinker made.! it was possible to make the first tests in actual cement making today. The works will soon be running at full capacity, and already three shifts are being worked. All but the key personnel are being transported to and from Westport by motor transport. Regular supplies of limestone are now more easily procurable from the quarry, after considerable initial difficulties due to pockets of heavy soil being encountered.
