Owner Returns Stake

(New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON, Nov. 21. Mr O. W. Edwards, of Matamata, the owner of the racehorse, Phoenician. which was placed fourth in the Cambridge Handicap on the opening day of the Waikato Racing Club’s summer meeting at Te Rapa on November 8. has returned the stake of £5O to the committee of the club asking that it be forwarded to Mr II L. G. Mackindoe, the owner of Marie Brizard. In a letter, Mr Edwards explains that as it is common knowledge that Marie Brizard did in fact finish fourth, out was mistaken for his horse, Phoenecian, he thought it right and proper that the stake should go to Marie Brizard’s owner. The Waikato Racing Club has expressed appreciation of Mr Edwards’s gesture.
