Kaitaia Man To Speak In Empire Link

(New Zealand Press Association) WHANGAREI, November 21. Kaitaia will be one of the points heard from in the Empire link preceding the Queen’s broadcast on Christmas Day, and the voice will be that of Mr H. S. Matthews.; aged 84, of Church road. Kaitaia. He is a grandson of the Rev.; Joseph Matthews and knew him well, and it was his reminiscences of early Kaitaia and the missionary which drew the attention of the British Broadcasting Corpora-; tion. During the Queen Mother’s visit. Mr Matthew’s broadcast from IXN. and Radio New Zealand, and a • recording was sent forward Whangarei when suggestions were* sought for the Empire broadcast. This so impressed the 8.8. C. that it was decided to use Mr Matthews reading a prepared, script.
