(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON. November 21. West Germany's new "stay sober’’ pills may be on sale in New Zealand by next April, depending on their success overseas. according to a large New Zealand wholesale druggist firm today. The pills, according to a report from West Germany received yesterday, can nullify the effects of 12 brandies taken on an empty stomach. They will be on sale in West German chemists’ shops later this week. A druggists’ spokesman said in
Wellington today: “We have no contact with German firms and so it is not surprising we haven’t heard of them. It is quite likely that the time is not far off when we will be selling them. We won’t have them for Christmas, but if they are satisfactory I should say we could possibly expect them about March or April next year." The pills arc claimed to be the perfect anti-alcohol device. They ; kill hangovers and allow drinkers to drive safely home from parties. . They are claimed to cut substantially the amount of alcohol in the blood-stream, but the makers. a Stuttgart firm, emphasise that they are intended for the occasional drinker, not the i alcoholic. The little chocolate-coated pills ; are apparently tasteless and do not ’I spoil the pleasure of drinking.
