TRAINING SCHOOL IN OBSTETRICS
Waikato Hospital
Chosen
(New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON. November 18.
The Waikato Hospital has been approved as a training school for membership and diploma examinations for obstetricians and gynaecologists by the Roval College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. London. The only other approved centres in New Zealand for this class of training are the Queen Marv Hospital. Dunedin, and the National Women’s Hospital. Auckland.
The superintendent-in-chicf (Mr R. S A. Graham) said that the recognition, besides showing the satisfactory development of the Waikato Hospital Board's service, would also be a distinct advantage to medical men desiring to specialise. Steps were being taken to appoint a registrar in obstetrics and gynaecology at the hospital to take advantage of the recognition given. Mr Graham said that the decision meant that general practitioners could undergo a six months’ course of training in the two subjects al the hospital and I then sit for their diploma at the' end of the period without leaving New Zealand. If they succeeded, they could qualify as holders of the diploma of the college. Students desiring to specialise would undergo a three-year course and they would then go to London to qualify as members of the college.
