‘Bright Prospects' In Japan Japan offered bright prospers for New Zealand radiata pine, but the extent to which the market can be developed depended on the price, said Mr R. Nishimatsu. a director of Toyo Mcnka Kaisha. of Tokyo, the largest inkporters of log timber into Japan, today. : Mr Nishimatsu is at present on a tour of New Zealand. His 'objective is the expansion of the i tog trade between New Zealand and Japan. 1 During his stay here he will; ; meet Government officials at Wellington to discuss the future ol ( I the trade and will also visit Neilson and Napier. j Mr Nishimatsu said Russia, 'offered serious opposition to New i Zealand for the log trade with ‘Japan. Russia was the main i source of softwoods to Japan. , But. he said. Japanese timber 'companies were looking for an .alternative and reliable source of i supply. Within five years. Japan | would face a serious shortage of ; softwoods and provided the cost !of buying and shipping New Zea- , land radiata remained stable, there was a bright prospect for this country.
