Obituary SIR W. HALCROW
UVew Zemana Press Association) WELLINGTON. Nov. 18. The death has occurred in England of Sir William Halcrow, aged 74. an eminent British civil engineer. He was consulting engineer to the Auckland Metropolitan Drainage Board. Nine years ago Sir William Halcrow was one of two consultants invited by the New Zealand Government to examine and report on major plans for the development of Auckland’s transport communications. A doctor in Thames for 39 years before he became assistant medical superintendent of the Thames Public Hospital, Dr. James Bull Liggins has died at his home in Auckland He was 66. Dr. Liggins had boon in practice in Auckland since 1947. Born at Westport. Dr. Liggins' was educated at Dunedin and Edinburgh. He served in the Black Watch at the beginning of tLc First World War and later, after qualifying, was a medical officer with the New Zealand Expeditionary' Force. MR A. W. ORGAN (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 17. A well-known personality in the printing trade, Mr A. W. Organ, aged 89. died on Saturday in the Wellington Public Hospital aftei a short illness. Mi Organ pioneered three enterprises in New Zealand. He was one of the fi. ' to sell papers on main trunk expres », he conceived the idea of railway bookstalls, and racing tips sheets were a later and successful venture. Today Organ 3ros., Ltd., publishes a chain of the Dominion's racing and sporting periodicals.
