All Will Remain Closed
SPRINGHILL (Nova Scotia >. November 12.
The Dominion Coal Company said in a statement tonight that none of the Springhill mines will reopen.
Two of the minus were closed after recent disasters in which many miners were killed. The announcement was made after a closed meeting between; the town, provincial government, union and company officials. The statement said: "The company will co-opcrate to the best of its ability with proper Government authorities to meet the difficult situation which the closing of this mine will cause in Springhill. The adjoining No. 4 pit wa&J sealed off after an explosion in' 1956 that killed 39 miners. Two other shafts. The deputy Works General Manager at Windscale told reporters today that a careful log was being kept for posterity of al! work done on the two reactors so that when the time comes for someone to get into them they will know exactly what they are facing.
