EUROPEAN ZONE OF DAVIS CUP

Future N.Z. Entries May Be Accepted

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 3.

A decision of the Internationa] Lawn Tennis Federation may mean that New Zealand will in future have a better chance of getting its entry accepted in the European zone of the Davis Cup. Twenty-four entries from European countries and four from overseas countries will now be accepted in the European zone. Previously, 20 entries only were accepted from European countries and four from overseas countries. The decision was made because it was felt that too many European nations were being left out of the draw. Some of those excluded were entering in the American zone, and the United States considered that too much travelling was involved as a result.

It was thought at tonight’s meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association that the easing of the pressure of entries in the European zone could have a beneficial effect for New Zealand. This year. New Zealand had its entry for the European Zone rejected. The chairman (Mr F S. Ramson) and the secretary (Mr A. C. W. Mantell-Hardin) said they felt the new ruling could assist New Zealand.
