FIREWORKS SALES

Rush On Supply For November 5

Import restrictions have induced a rush on fire-crackers for Guy Fawkes Day on Wednesday. Concern among intending celebrants that there might not be any crackers for next year has led them to ensure that this year’s bonfire night will be one to remember.

The hospitals, ambulance, police and fire brigades hope the event will not be overdone. Each November 5 gives them enough trouble without celebrants making the night any more memorable than usual.

In the interests of safety and to help firemen, brigades make the following requests:— Please do not put motor tyres on fires. They smoulder long after the fire itself has gone out and represent a major hazard. Please do not build bonfires in areas unauthorised by the brigades.

If a bonfire looks like getting out of hand do not hesitate to spoil the fun by calling the police and the fire brigade. Hospitals and ambulances which treat scores of people every year for minor and major burns resulting from dangerous play ask that the following rule be observed:—

Do not throw crackers or aim rockets into a crowd.
