GIRLS’ AND BOYS’ BRIGADES
Combined Service In Cathedral About 1200 members of the Girls* Life Brigade and the Boys’ Brigade will parade to a service in the Christchurch Cathedral on Sunday afternoon as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of the foundation of the Boys’ Brigade in Scotland. The first, second and third Battalions of the Girls’ Life Brigade and the Canterbury Battalion of the Boys’ Brigade will parade to the service from. Cranmer square with the Salvation Army Band and two bands of Christchurch companies of the Boys’ Brigade. The service will be conducted by the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. Martin Sullivan). After the service there will be a parade and march past at which the salute will be taken by the Mayor (Mr G. Manning). The service is one of many observances to mark the 75th anniversary of the Boys’ Brigade movement. On December 13 a field day will be held at English Park when about 500 boys will take part in the main items on the programme. There will be a trooping of the colour, a ceremony being conducted by the brigade for the first time outside the United Kingdom. Other activities on the programme include signalling, first aid, massed physical training and band music.
The Ist Christchurch Company of the movement recently won the national drill competition held in Wellington as a part of the anniversary activities.
