Cycling Women’s Record For One Hour
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) MILAN, Sept. 25 Miss Millie Robinson, the British women’s cycling champion, who comes from Nottingham, set a world record by covering 39.718 kilometres 124 miles 1196 yards) in one hour at the Vigorelli Stadium today. The previous record was 38.596
kilometres (23 miles 1729 yards) set by Renee Vissac, of France
Miss Robinson, who is 34, also beat the world records for 10 and 20 kilometres during her one-hour fun. She was timed at 14 minutes 44 seconds at the 10-kilometre mark, beating the time of 14 min 45 ; lsec held by Miss M. Taranova (Russia). At 20 kilometres Miss Robinson was timed at 29 minutes 47.8 seconds, compared with the 30min 38.0 sec previous best held by Miss M. Jurkina (Russia).
In the 59-year period which has constituted half of New Zealand’s official history, the post-primary student population has brown from 2723 in 1899, to 68.900 in 1958, Mr G. V Wild.
