> Loan Application > Deferred r Consideration of the City Coun- ’ cil’s application for sanction to . raise a £168,000 loan,to complete : the Centennial Pool apart from J roPfing it has been deferred for ‘ a year by the Local Authorities 1 Loans Board, according to informs ation received by the City Treasurer (Mr L. A. G. Rich) yesterday. ■ Mr Rich said that although the ’ council wished to raise £168,000, j its intention was to spend not ■ more than £40,000 in the first ; year. Actually the council had : already spent £102,000 on the pool, but, to date, had not had [ recourse to loan money. “As most of the structures about the pool—spectator accommodation and dressing rooms, mainly —have been erected in temporary materials, it is possible that before very long the council will be faced with a big maintenance bill. It may even be necessary to replace the spectator accommodation with another temporary structure,” Mr Rich said. The council’s proposal was to spend £16,590 on an entrance vestibule and staff and committee rooms, £117,195 on d main spectator stand, dressing room accommodation, tiling and exterior work around the main pool, £17,000 on a learners’ pool, £11,440 on architects’ fees, and the balance on quantity surveyor’s fees and demolition of the old temporary structures and contingencies.
