Lamb Prices Higher
(New Zeaiana Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 26. The market information service of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board reports that press publicity on high prices has caused a reduction in sales of beef in London. The public turned more attention this week to lamb, pork and poultry. There was a good demand for New Zealand lamb at prices appreciably higher than those of last week. Quotations for prime quality New Zealand lamb were:—2Blb and under, 2s 5Jd to 2s 6d per lb; 29-361 b, 2s 3d to 2s 3Jd; 37-421 b, Is Hid to 2s; 43-501 b, Is 9Jd to Is lOd. New Zealand mutton was at firm prices. There was a limited inquiry for light supplies of wethers. Light-weights were at Is 5d to Is 6d per lb, and heavies at Is Id to Is 3d. There was a fair demand for ewes. Light-weights were Is OJd to Is 3d per lb, and heavies at lOd to lid. Home-killed lamb was in moderate supply. Slightly heavier supplies of home killed beef contributed towards a lowering of beef values from their peak of last week There was a dull trade in frozen beef. There was a small quantity of New Zealand beef marketed early in the week. Prices for this were 2s Id to 2s 3d per lb for hinds, and Is fid to Is 7d per lb for fores.
