WEEDS... A Universal Problem
By
Weeds Research Officer, Department of Agriculture.
'I HE Province of Canterbury appears to be afflicted with at least its fair share of weed problems and has in fact certain particularly unwelcome invaders which are a source of great concern.
In a brief article of this kind no attempt is made to cover all aspects of weed control; all that is possible is some comment on the major problems with perhaps a passing reference to less important ones.
The weeds of Canterbury farmlands, many of which are introduced species, may be conveniently grouped as follows:
1.. Those encountered mainly in the high country. 2.. country weeds. 3.. Weeds of lowland pastures. 4.. Crop weeds. 5.. Weeds of open drains and water races. 6. Weed species infesting riverbeds and other waste areas.
