MEAT EXPORTS TO CANADA
Big Increase Not Likely (New Zealana Press Association)' AUCKLAND, Sept 25. Canada's pledge that there would be no increase in her low tariff rate on fresh lamb and mutton imported from Australia and New Zealand, announced in Montreal . esterday, is not likely to lead to a radical change in New Zealand’s marketing policy, said a spokesman for an Auckland meat trading company today. “The usual thing is for meat exporters to go for the market of the day—the one offering the highest price,” he said. "Canada does offer high prices for some kinds of meat, but other markets top her with other kinds, so the over-ail trade picture is not likely to alter much as a result of the announcement.
“It is really a guarantee that she will not reduce our present market by tariffs, rather than an inducement to increase exports to Canada,” he said. “It is unlllkely that meat will be diverted from other markets as a result of this announcement.*'
