“Mad Cyclist” In Gaol

IN.Z Press Association—Copyright' ALICE SPRINGS, Sept. 23. The Northern Territory’s “maa cyclist.” Frank Sumenjak, is safely in gaol in Alice Springs. He was sentenced to two months’ hard labour in the Alice Springs Court yesterday on a charge of having insufficient lawful means of support while police in other parts of the territory searched for him. The police were warned to stop him from making a perilous trip into the desert. Sumenjak, who is 23, has made a series of trips into the desert on a bicycle with little water and food, and police parties have had to search for him. "He’s one of these migrants who think there’s a town every 15 miles,’’ an Alice Springs policeman said today.
