LORD COBHAM’S NELSON VISIT
Participation In Celebrations
(New Zealand Press Association) NELSON, September 24.
Because of official duties in Wellington, the Governor-Gen-eral, Lord Cobham, is unable to come to Nelson tomorrow.
His Excellency will arrive on Friday morning to take part in the city Centennial celebrations, and stay until Sunday. The programme of events for the next four days has been rearranged to fit in with the later arrival time.
His Excellency will be tendered a civic reception on arrival. During the afternoon he will see a procession of schoolchildren and attend an afternoon tea function for senior citizens. His evening programme will include attendance at the Nelson
Diocesan historical pageant in the Nelson College assembly hall, and later at the Centennial Ball, where debutantes will be presented to him.
On Saturday, Lord Cobham wiH open the Hard of Hearing League’s rooms, and visit the Cawthron Institute. In the evening he attends a New Zealand premiere showing of the film. “A Night to Remember.” His Excellency will atterid a Centennial thanksgiving service at Nelson Cathedral on Sunday morning, when he will read one of the lessons. He leaves by air for Wellington at 12.45 p.m. on Sunday.
