FILM SHORTAGE CRITICISED
Annual Report Of Movie Club
The problems encountered by amateur movie-makers with the re-introduction of import control early this year, are discussed by the president of the Christchurch Movie Club (Mr W. R. Paterson), in his report to be presented to tne club’s annual meeting next week. “The scarcity of equipment has not made itself felt to any marked degree yet, but the film position, with its unsatisfactory distribution and under-the-counter methods, reminiscent of war time, is indeed a difficult problem,” says Mr Paterson.
“The retailers are in a most invidious position and without coupon rationing, which is impossible anyway, it seems unlikely that any fair method of distribution is possible.”
Another milestone in the club's endeavour to provide the most suitable accommodation for members was the move to the new clubrooms, in the Museum lecture theatre. “The amenities we now have make us the envy of all other movie club in New Zealand,” says Mr Paterson.
Six practical film-making classes had been held. As well as discussions on technical subjects, films showing the various aspects of movie-making technique had been made.
The twenty-six films entered in the five competitions held during the year had been of a consistently high standard. About £BO had been spent on films for the film library and 66 films were now available for hire by members. Expenses during the year oi £299 were adequately covered by receipts of £496, of which £399 c e from subscriptions. There an excess of income over expenditure of £l9/, which was transferred to accumulated funds. The present value of equipment owned by the club is £340, of which two film projectors take up £l7l, and a sound system a further £27.
Laundry Services.— lnformation is being sought by the finance committee of the North Canterbury Hospital Board from other major boards on the cost of running laundry services for old people in their own homes.
