JEWELLERS ' BALL
Delegates and their wives, attending the Jewellers’ Association annual conference were entertained at a cabaret and ball last evening in the Mayfair Lounge. About 150 guests were welcomed by the branch chairman (Mr J. L. Pearson) and Mrs Pearson.
Items were given by the following: Mr Donald Jack (baritone solos); Marjorie Marshall (vocal solos?; Mary belle and Jeanette Arnold (vocal duets) accompanied by Mrs D. Stevens. Ballet was danced by pupils of Miss Billie Stevens. Compere for the evening was Mr Winston Sharp. Mrs Pearson wore a grey lurex threaded brocade dress cut on the Princess line with silver and blue flower motive with matching bolero.
The National president’s wife (Mrs G. W. Oliver) wore a short cocktail gown in black brocade relieved with diamonds.
Plunket Fashion Show.—The Wycola Sub-branch of the Plunket Society held a fashion show in the National Party rooms last evening. Eight models showed Spring and Summer wear from lingerie to top coats. Mens clothing was also shown. The convener, Mrs G Johnson, welcomed visitors to the show which was compered by Mrs Barclay Miller. Fashions were by local manufacturers. The models were as follows: Margot Bennett, Wendy Rowley, Maureen James, Joyce Osborne, Margaret Rigg, Esme Shaw, June Churchward, Linda Haase. Member Welcomed.—Mrs J. Mathison, who has been ill for some time, was welcomed back to the North Canterbury Hospital Board at yesterday’s meeting.
