Bowls MIXED TOURNAMENT ABANDONED

(New Zealand Press Association) NAPIER, September 24. A national mixed bowling tournament, organised by the Napier Centennial Committee as a feature of the provincial Centennial programme in November, has had to be abandoned. The committee has been informed that mixed tournaments conducted by non-affiliated organisations are not recognised by the New Zealand Bowling Association. The Hawke’s Bay Bowling Centre is affiliated with the Dominion association, and so the centre is bound to forbid its affiliated clubs from sanctioning the use of their greens for an "illegal” tournament. The New Zealand Bowling Association has instructed affiliated centres to return to the Napier Centennial Committee all posters advertising the tournament, which have been distributed throughout New Zealand.
