NEW BRIGADE GROUP

Reorganisation Of Army Begun (New Zealand Press Association/ WELLINGTON. Sept 24. The Army has started on the formation of some units for the brigade group which will become the operational Regular Force. The brigade group will include the infantry battalion serving in Malaya. Announcing this today the Minister of Defence <Mr Connolly) said priority was being given to the formation of infantry, artillery, armour and signals units, and these would absorb most of the personnel who had been engaged in the instruction of compulsory military trainees • ‘Special emphasis is being placed on the formation and development of the 2nd Battalion. New Zealand Regiment, as it will be required to replace the Ist Battalion, now in Malaya, towards the end of next year.’* he said “In bringing about these changes the Army is ensuring that the disturbance and transfer of married personnel is kept to a minimum. The new units are to be located at Papakura. Waiouru. Linton and Bumham camps and. in practically all cases, postings for the former C M.T instructors and staff will be to units in their present camps ” Waggons Derailed.—At 4.30 yesterday morning, five empty waggons of a goods train from Stratford were derailed at OkahuP*W«*ger service on the Main Trunk line was not disturbed.—(PA.)
