Traffic Problems

Sir, —The “swamping” of the city by traffic envisaged by Cr. McLean could be caused by parking meters in the wrong places. Which set of traffic brains placed meters In Oxford terrace, our busiest thoroughfare? Parked cars there between Worcester street and the hospital are a positive danger and definitely obstructive to traffic. Why is two hours’ parking permitted in Cambridge terrace and only one hour in the streets branching away from its congestion? The two hours should be for the latter to encourage people to keep out of the “swamp.” All angle parking in the former should be altered to parallel. No more meters should »e bought, until those responsible for their disposition are not so concerned with their revenue and will plßce them where they can help drain the “swamp.”—Yours, etc..

SNORKEL. August 6, 1958. . [This letter was referred to the City Council but no comment has been received.]
