N.Z. HOUSEWIVES’ FEDERATION
Conference Opens At Greymouth (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, Sept 21. The annual conference of the Federation of New Zealand Housewives carried the following resolution in Greymouth on Saturday morning:— “That this conference reaffirms its protest against nuclear weapon tests, and urges the Government, through its United Nations representatives, tg support the banning of such tests.”
The following delegates were present:—Auckland, Western Suburbs. Mrs E. Lovegrove. Wanganui, Mrs D. Kingston. Hastings, Mrs A. Hogg and Mrs Sherwood. Canterbury, Mrs J. Ryan (voting delegate), Mrs M. Furey and Mrs K. Dunmill (observers). Dunedin, Mrs Beetcher. Greymouth, Mrs J. Mitchell, Mrs D. Hansen, Mrs P. Gilchrist, and Mrs M. Ross. Mrs Beever (Kawerau) was unable to attend.
The conference was presided over by Mrs Hansen, the National president, and Mrs Gilchrist and Mrs Ross were secretary and treasurer respectively. The delegates, who were welcomed by the Mayor of Greymouth (Mr F. W Baillie), spent the day in discussing domestic matters. They viewed a West Coast scenic film on Saturday evening and yesterday were taken for a scenic drive to the blowholes and pancake rocks at Punakaiki.
