WORKING MEN’S CLUB OPENS

Riccarton Function The Riccarton Working Men’s Club was opened on Saturday morning by Mrs M. A. Connelly, in the absence of Mr Connelly, the member of Parliament for the district, who was in Wellington. The club, which has a membership of 1056, and a waiting list of 80, was first thought of by Messrs Jim Douglas and Harry Mclntosh in 1954. Ten acres of land lying to the west and north of the club property would become a reserve, said Mr J. I. Coliigan, a member of the Waimairi County Council, at the opening. He said the council had completed negotiations to purchase the land.
