AUCKLAND BEATS WELLINGTON
Northern Team Wins Easily (New Zealand Press Association/ WELLINGTON, October 21. Wellington, after a strenuous season, looked a jaded team at Athletic Park yesterday, and was outclassed, for the second time this season, by Auckland, who won, 3613. Auckland led, 13-8, at half-time The Auckland backs made play from anywhere, and. were well served by A. Edgar at half-back and the first five-eighths, T. Wynyard. Wynyard made some good breaks and was easily the most penetrative back on the field. At full-back, Auckland introduced an 18-year-old player, W. A. Davies, who gave an immaculate display. His taking and kicking were excellent. The Auckland forwards were as eager as their backs to attack—and they did. H. K. Emery, the Maori All Black, and B. A. Nepia led many rushes. For Wellington the half-back, C. G. Henderson, played a fine game behind a thoroughly beaten pack, and at full-back, J. D. P. Taitoko did some brilliant things. I. M. H. Vodanovich was seen in one or two typical bursts. For Auckland. D. Webb (2), Wynyard (2), R. Harrison, Emery, and R. Berghan, scored tries. Davies converted six, and kicked a penalty. F. J. Thompson and J. K. Sage scored tries for Wellington, and B. T. Frederikson kicked two conversions and a penalty.
