Ship’s Colour Changed
There* was a marked change in the appearance of the Union Stqpm Ship Company’s cargo ship, Navua, when she arrived at Lyttelton yesterday from Auckland. Since her last call at Lyttelton the Navua’s white hull has been painted black and the superstructure buff. The reason behind the colour change is that the Navua has been taken off the Pacific islands run and will be engaged in the coastal trade. She will be replaced in the Pacific islands run by the new motorship, Tarawera, which is to arat Lyttelton on Wednesday from Apia on her delivery voyage. The Navua’s previous all-white colour was for a practical purpose. Being non-retrigerated (her holds were ventilated by fans) the white paint was used to keep down the temperature of the hull as much as possible. I
