EARTHQUAKE IN CALIFORNIA

SAN, FRANCISCO, Aug. 30. A sharp earthquake shook western San Francisco and .some nearby towns to the south, today. It knocked a police radio dispatcher out of his office chair at San Bruno. No damage was reported. In Pasadena an earthquake strong enough to be damaging in a populated area was recorded. It was about 600 miles away.

Dr. Charles F. Richter said seismographs at the California Technical Institute indicated the disturbance had a magnitude of 6.2 on the ten-point scale.
