Big Wool Clip In Britain
(N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, August 21. The 1957 British wool clip of 75,100,0001 b was the heaviest for 18 years and 11 per cent, greater than that of the previous year, stated the annual report of the British Wool Marketing Board, published today. In spite of adverse trading conditions, 61,200,0001 b of this clip had been sold by the end of April and practically all the remainder, carried over to the new account, had now been sold.
British wool prices had not fall as much as those for other wools, the report said. Pointing to the steady increase in exports in recent years, the board said that close on half" of British fleece wool was now exported. The 1957 clip earned £8,400.000 abroad and made wool the main foreign currency earner of British agriculture.
