QUINTUPLETS TO EWE
Stud Merino At Culverden
An eight-year-old stud Merino ewe gave birth to five ewe lambs on Eudunda, the property of Burrows Bros, at Culverden, about 8.30 a.m. yesterday. All but one of the lambs were alive at birth, and these were all reported last evening to be “thriving well.” They were about the size of average twin Merino lambs. A member of«the Burrows family said that it was unusual for a Merino ewe to give birth to more than two lambs. Mr C. A. Burrows, who helped the ewe to lamb, said that there was “no trouble at all.” Two of the lambs have been left on the ewe. which was bought last autumn from the Lansdowne stud of Mr J. Morton Samson. The other two lambs will probably be placed with other ewes. Last lambing season, a Romney ewe gave birth to six lambs on the property of Mr R. W. Clouston at West Plains. Southland, and nearly 21 years ago a five-year-old Corriedale on the farm of Mr W. J. C. Sheat on the Main South road, Dunsandel, created worldwide interest when it gave birth to lambs, all of which lived to maturity.
