CITIZEN GIVES £2000 TO TOWN HALL FUND

The fund, Christchurch’s town hall/at the week-end passed the £30,000 mark when Town Hall Promotion received a cheque for £2OOO from Mr Andrew Hughes, who has been a resident of Christ-, church for more than 70 years! In his letter Mr Hughes said: “I have great pleasure in enclosing herewith a cheque for £2OOO as my contribution towards the town hall.

“Having lived in Christchurch for over 70 years. and enjoyed the amenities it has offered me. I.feel I haye a duty to do something for it, and the proposed erection ,of a much-needed -toiyn hall gives me this opportunity. “I have every confidence in dur city administrators in their choice of a suitable site, and appreciate their decision, and promise to proceed with the building of the hail. All'l want to do is to help them obtain, at the earliest possible date, a hall of which the city may be proud, “I congratulate the ' promoters on their excellent efforts so far, and feel they .will have no difficulty in reaching their target. Maybe my . sentiments .and gift may inspire Other citizens.” The president of Town Hall Promotion (Mr J. L. Hay) said: “It is most heartening to members of the direct appeal ex-

ecutive to receive Mr Hughes’s letter, together with his handsome contribution of £2OOO to the town hall fund.
