Russians To Cross Antarctica

Press Association —Copyright) MOSCOW, August 9 Soviet explorers intend to make a transcontinental crossing through the South Pole next year and to set up two more scientific bases in the Antarctic, the Soviet News Agency Tass said on Thursday. The leader of the Soviet Antarctic Expedition (Dr. Mikhail Somov) said that the Crossing would start in October, 1959, from the main Soviet base at Mirny, in eastern Antarctica, and will end in March, 1960. on the coast of the Bellingshausen Sea.
