HONOURS AWARDED JOURNALIST

Mr J. L. Young Gains M.A.

The degree of master of arts, with first-class .honours in psychology, for Mr James Leversedge Young, of the Universit. of Canterbury, was among those conferred during the final session of the Senate of the University of New Zealand in Dunedin last week.

Mr Young, with his family, is now on his way to Canada, to take up an appointment as a lecturer in psychology at Bishops College, Lennoxville, 100 miles from Montreal, in the province of Quebec. He will also be completing theological studies, and has the offer of pastoral duties, as his qualifications in flying will enable him to serve several outlying parishes each Sun 'ay. Mr Yo ng is a son of Archdeacon and Mrs J. R. Young, of Raetihi. He entered journalism ion the “Dominion” iri Wellington, and then served as a battery captain in K Force.

On demobilisation, Mr Young joined the literary staff of “The Press,” and served as country subeditor until his recent departure for Canada. During this time he graduated from the University of Canterbury, and for the last two

years had been a part-time lecturer in psychology. The thesis on which Mr Young has been awarded first-class honours concerned the deterioration of perception in human beings immediately on awakening.
