SCHOOL GAME

Christ’s College Beats Xavier Vigorous forward rushes and quick heeling gave Christ’s College a big advantage over Xavier College in their match at Christ’s College, but the failure of the back line to function efficiently in the face of some resolute Xavier College tackling kept the score low. Christ’s College won by 9 points to 3, but was less impressive than in most of its games this season. Both sides scored one try, although on several other occasions break-throughs' were stopped very short of the line. On the day. the Xavier College backs were more impressive, and came through long periods of hard defensive play with flying colours. Christ’s College’s only try was scored when the wing, D. W. McKenzie, outpaced the opposition to score in the corner. Christ’s College gained a monopoly of the ball in the scrums and A. S. Reekie was almost unassailable in the line-outs. In spite of this feast of the ball, the backs too frequently ran as individuals even when men outside them were in better positions The Xavier College forwards tried hard and were aggressive in the loose. Their fast following up bore results and P. Kane scored the side’s only try when he gathered up a loose ball and crashed over. Christ’s College points came from a try by McKenzie and two penalty j goals by Reekie. For Xavier College. P. Kane scored a try.
