MANUFACTURERS’ MEMBERSHIP

Big Improvement Noted

A “distinct improvement” in the membership of the Canterburv Manufacturers’ Association, with the total now at 454, is recorded in the renort of the Canterburv Manufacturers’ Association to be presented to the annual meeting this evening. The report records the success of this year’s industries fair at which 111 060 paid admissions exceeded the previous year’s by 11.043. The association exnresses pleasure at the high standard of industrial exhibits, with special nraise for the New Zealand Wool Board’s disnlav, the model home, and the Railway Department’s exhibit.

The wide range of topics discussed by the council during the vear is indicated by the following list:—Goods illegally entering the country (particularly from countries with low standards of living), future town planning, delays and direct shipments to Lvttelton, sales tax. P.A.Y.E.. publicity, import licensing and exchange control, taxation, equal pay for equal work, the Board of Trade, machinery inspection, review of the Ottawa Agreement, export of New Zealand-made goods, credit control and capital issues control, dangerous goods and Health Department regulations, and technical education.
