DIRECTOR OF AGRICULTURE

Mr Smallfield Appointed (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 10. The appointment of Mr p. W Smallfleld as Director-General of Agriculture is announced by the Public Service Commission. Mr Smallfleld, now assistant director-general, will replace Mr R. B. Tennent at the end of this month. Mr Tennent has been director-general since the retirement of Mr E. J. Fawcett last November. Mr Smallfleld joined ’ the department in 1921 as a bachelor of agriculture from Canterbury University College. He was superintendent of the Ruakura animal research station from 1939 to 1943, when he shifted to the head office in Wellihgton.
