MEAT EXPORT INQUIRY
Abattoir Killings Included (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 6. Though the order of reference for the projected meat inquiry committee had not been fixed plans had been made to include in it an examination of the desirability of permitting the export from New Zealand of meat derived from livestock that had been slaughtered in registered abattoirs, the Minister of Agriculture' (Mr Skinner) said in a written reply to Mr W. J Scott (Opposition, Rodney) and circulated in the House of Representatives today. In a reply to a question on the same subject by Mr G. A. Walsh (Opposition, Tauranga) the Minister said that it was not his intention to ask any organisation to nominate members to the proposed committee. He had, however, consulted the New Zealand Meat Producers Board on the order of reference and general aspects of the proposed inquiry. To Mr J. H. George (Opposi tion, Otago Central) the Ministei said that the inquiry would not be carried out by a Select Committee of the House.
