Limited Zones On Country Roads

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, August 6. An appeal for more “limited zones” in New Zealand country areas and fewer 30 mile an hour zones was made in the House of Representatives by Mr J. K. McAlpine (Opposition. Selwyn) during the debate on the Transport Department estimates. A “limited speed zone” is an area in which speeds up to 50 miles an hour can be maintained at the discretion of the driver. “A very good example of how regulations can be too stringently applied is in Amberley,” said Mr McAlpine. “It has a good, wide road, partially built up on either side. There is a limited zone for a few hundred yards, and then the 30-mile-an-hour limit is spoiled. “This means that the maximum is 30 miles an hour, no matter ; when, and no matter what the [traffic conditions.

“I think the Transport Department might well have a look at many of these unnecessary 30 miles an hour limitation areas.”
