ACTION BROUGHT BY HEMINGWAY
Plan To Republish Three Stories (Rec. 9.20 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 5. Ernest Hemingway moved today to prevent “Esquire” magazine from republishing three of his stories about the Spanish Revolution. “The passage of time can affect the writings of authors either favourably or unfavourably.” his suit said. The action to restrain republication of the stories was filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court. Argument on Hemingway’s motion will be heard tomorrow. The stories involved are ‘‘The Denunciation,” “The Butterfly and the Tank,” and ‘‘Night Before Battle.” all published in “Esquire” in late 1938 or early 1939. r
Hemingway was a correspondent during the Spanish Revolution and his writings at that time favoured the Spanish Government overthrown by General Franco.
