WAGE INCREASES GRANTED
Aircraft Workers’ Award
Wage increases ranging from 3s 4d to 5s a week have been made under a new award for New Zealand aircraft workers in the Northern, Taranaki, Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson, Westland. Canterbury and Otago and Southland industrial districts, granted by the Court of Arbitration.
The minimum rates of wages have been increased as follows: flying instructor engineers by £l3 to £BB4 a year; aircraft tradesmen by 5s to £ll 10s a week; tradesmen by 5s to £ll Os lOd a week; marine aircraft servicemen by 4s 2d to £lO 4s 2d a week; senior aircraft hands by 4s 2d to £9 15s lOd; aircraft hands by 3s 4d to £9 6s 8d; watchmen by 3s 4d to £9 6s 8d; senior storemen by 5s to £lO 19s 2d; aircraft storemen by 4s 2d to £lO 5s and, storemen by 4s 2d to £9 15s.
The minimum weekly wages for boys, youths and females from under 17 to 21 have all been increased by 3s 4d. The minimum wage for females over 21 has been increased by ss. Any worker required to strip glass wool sound proofing material from the inside of an aircraft will be paid an additional 6d an hour. Meal money has been increased from 4s to 4s 6d. The terms of the new award are retrospective to April 1, 1958.
