Lawn Tennis DAVIS CUP CHALLENGE

“Italy Could Play Australia”

(New Zealand Press Association) MELBOURNE, August 5. The Australian Davis Cup tennis team’s manager, Harry Hopman, believes that Italy and not the United States could be the team to play Australia in the 1958 Davis Cup chai- i lenge round.

Hopman said Italy, the winner ol the European zone, had In Pietrangeli and Sirola players who had had enough experience to beat the Americans

Hopman said that after Italy won the European zone two years ago its team hurried to play America in an inter-zone final at Forest Hills, with players out of form and out of practice on grass courts. “I believe the Italians will plan more wisely this time,” said Hopman today, “and send Sirola and Pietrangeli to Australia early in our summer season.”
