ALLERGIES TO DRUGS
Identification Discs Wanted (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 23. Medical opinions which had been sought favoured the idea of persons known to be allergic to certain drugs such as penicillin, sulpha and morphia carrying appropriate identification cards or discs to indicate this, said the proposer of a remit on this matter at the Dominion conference of the Country Women’s Institutes in Wellington. This method of identification of an allergy would save needless suffering from ill effects caused by the use of these drugs in cases of emergency. The remit, which asked that the medical profession be asked to encourage this practice among such people, was carried. Supervision of Prisons Stricter supervision of prisoners was urged in view of the number who had recently escaped from custody, in another remit, which was carried. Another remit, which was carried after much discussion, and which was proposed by the Dominion executive committee, said: ‘‘Membership of A.C.W.I. centre shall be confined to women who have been members of an institute in their former place of residence, to their daughters and to members of the institutes of neighbouring federations; transfer or membership cards must be presented when applying for membership.”
